The UC Master Gardener Program of Contra Costa County is thrilled to announce the 2025 Great Tomato Plant Sale, offering gardeners a diverse selection of tomato varieties, as well as peppers, eggplants, squash, and more. This annual event is a fantastic opportunity for both novice and experienced gardeners to acquire high-quality plants cultivated by knowledgeable volunteers.
Event Details:
Our Garden, Walnut Creek: Located at the corner of N. Wiget and Shadelands.
Saturday and Sunday, April 5 and 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Wednesdays, April 9 and 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m
Rivertown Demonstration Garden, Antioch: Situated within the Contra Costa Event Park at 1201 W. 10th St.
Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Richmond Civic Center Library: Located at 325 Civic Center Plaza, Richmond.
Saturday, April 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Each location will feature an extensive selection of over 75 unique heirloom and hybrid tomato varieties, carefully chosen to thrive in various microclimates within Contra Costa County. In addition to tomatoes, the sale will include a diverse array of peppers, eggplants, and other vegetables and herbs, enabling gardeners to cultivate a vibrant and productive garden.
Highlights of the 2025 Sale:
New Dwarf Tomato Varieties: For those with limited space or interested in container gardening, the introduction of four new dwarf tomato varieties from the Dwarf Tomato Project is particularly exciting. These compact plants promise the rich flavors of heirloom tomatoes without requiring extensive space.
Expanded Pepper Selection: Responding to community feedback, the 2025 sale will offer an increased variety of hotter peppers, including limited quantities of Aji Fantasy, Red Savina, and Chocolate Habanero. Be sure to arrive early to secure these sought-after varieties. Shopping Tips:
Preparation: Review the shopping lists specific to each location to plan your visit and prioritize desired varieties.
Containers: Bring boxes or containers to transport your selected plants home safely.
Payment: All plants are priced at $4.00. Payment options include Visa, Mastercard, cash, or check.
Safety: For safety reasons, pets are not permitted inside the sales area.
